Musicians who held live performances last weekend attracted paltry crowds, mainly due to the wet weather. A number of gigs were lined up in the capital and few people attended the shows.
The Herald Entertainment covered some of the shows which were poorly attended.
At Plaza De Castila in Greencroft Peter Moyo’s show had a lower attendance compared to his recent outings in Harare.
The musician has been commanding a huge crowd in Harare but all was not well on Friday.
His manager Sukol Dube blamed rains for the poor attendance.
“People don’t come to shows because of these rains and it is affecting every musician in Zimbabwe,” said Dube.
On the same night Tryson Chimbetu and Extra Kwazvose who were playing at Pamuzinda Highway Escape along Bulawayo Road had very few people.
Though the show was well advertised people did not come to the show as expected.
Chimbetu said this is a bad season to host outdoor shows.
“People usually enjoy relaxing at home where there are warm temperatures when it is raining. Few people go out and it is even worse for outdoor events,” said Chimbetu.
The musician suffered the same blow at Miami Night Club in Sunningdale on Saturday while Rhumba group BV Labien had poor turnout in Marondera at Legends Bar.
Romeo Gasa almost cancelled a show at Chigovanyika in Chitungwiza on Friday following the poor attendance that marred his show.
However it was not the same case with Alick Macheso whose loyal fans braved the wet weather at Jongwe Corner in Hatfield.
In Bindura on Saturday youths ignored the bad weather and attended a the dancehall gig in the town.
A local promoter Biggie Chinoperekwei blamed the wet weather for poor attendance at shows.
“People don’t come because of the weather and I think artists must be strategic when choosing these venues for shows,” he said.
Another promoter Patson Chimbodza said there was need for artists to be wise in selection of venues for them to get reasonable returns for their shows.
