THOSE who lost in Zanu-PF primary elections should rally behind the winners through holding joint rallies and meetings to strengthen the party ahead of harmonised election, party political commissar Cde Webster Shamu has said. Speaking after successfully filing his nomination papers, Cde Shamu said the party should come out of the primary elections stronger to sweep the MDCs aside and urged cadres to remain focused on the revolutionary party ideals.
“The primary elections have come and gone and they are a process of strengthening the intra-party democracy,” said Cde Shamu.
“Losing a primary election does not mean an end to someone’s political life and we would like to appeal to those who did not win to support those who won.”
Primary elections, he said, were not there to create disunity and hatred but galvernise the party.
Politburo member Dr Ignatius Chombo who also successfully filed his papers, said there was no time to rest as the real battle has just begun.
“The voting went on well and to those who won, the work starts right now to ensure that the party wins against the MDCs. Let’s now go back to the people and work so that our party wins the elections resoundingly,” he said.
He said there was no room for a losing party cadre to want to stand as an independent candidate if they have Zanu-PF at heart.
Chegutu West candidate Cde Dexter Nduna also successfully filed his nomination papers. He said he was geared to ensure that the seat which is held by the MDC-T is returned to Zanu-PF.
“We will continue our development strategies which dovetail into the overall goal of Zanu-PF to empower the masses. Those we were fighting (in the primaries) are vital cogs in ensuring that the development agenda moves forward,” said Cde Nduna.
