Rank marshal speared to death

The two lovebirds Simeko Moyo of Nswazi and Bhekani Nkomo (31) of Nyamayendlovu, allegedly killed the woman’s husband, Facskon Dube on Monday night at about 8pm.

The death of Dube has left the Gwanda Town community shocked as he was the town’s rank marshal and was popularly known as “Tshebetshebe”.

Villagers said Moyo teamed up with her young “small house” with whom she had been romantically involved for some time, in planning her husband’s  death after realising that he had become a stumbling block to their affair.

On Monday night at about 7pm, the villagers said, Nkomo visited his lover Moyo at her matrimonial home in Nswazi area in Esigodini.

It is alleged that upon his arrival, Nkomo phoned Moyo to meet him outside the homestead.

Moyo complied and the two proceeded to be intimate outside the homestead at a nearby anthill.

“We heard that Nkomo started talking about killing  uTshebetshebe during the time he was having sexual intercourse with Tshebetshebe’s wife saying that she had to get married to him (Nkomo) as she was the only person who was satisfying his sexual desires,” said a source.

It is further alleged that after their sexual intercourse, Nkomo accompanied Moyo back to her homestead where he asked Moyo to give him her husband’s spear that he had seen several times during his visits.

The sources said Moyo gave Nkomo the spear, who then left and laid an ambush at a nearby bush at around 8pm after arrangements had been made on how to kill Dube.

After Nkomo had left her lover’s homestead, the husband Dube arrived from work in the company of his friend Mr Mandlenkosi Nkomo who dropped him from his car and left.

After meeting his wife, the unsuspecting Dube was lured to his death when his wife asked him to accompany her to a nearby bush where she wanted to cleanse herself with some traditional herbs that could not be used at home.

The villagers said Dube agreed, followed the direction the wife took and passed the place where his wife’s lover had laid the ambush.

While they were still walking, the lover, Nkomo, emerged from behind, struck Dube with a log on the head and stabbed him nine times with the spear.

The matter was reported to the police.

Matabeleland South Province police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya confirmed the incident.

He said the woman has since been arrested and was in police custody.

“The investigations revealed that the two accused persons had planned to kill the now deceased. We have since arrested Moyo and she is still assisting police with investigations. Nkomo is still at large and we are appealing to members of the public to assist with information which can lead to his arrest,” said Asst Insp Ngwenya.

He said those with information can contact the police at Esigodini on their hotline 0715 318 017 or the provincial hotline on (0284) 20139 or any nearest police station.
