THE trial of two brothers who allegedly went on an armed robbery spree in Bulawayo and also raped one of the victims, started yesterday.

Enock Mukumbi (26) and Roy Mukumbi (23) both from Upper Rangemore appeared before Western commonage regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze, who remanded them in custody to May 15.

The duo is facing six counts of robbery, one count of rape and one count of assault.
According to the State case presented by the prosecutor, Mr Milton Moyo, the six robbery cases were committed between November 2024 and February this year.

“Both accused persons approached one of the complainant, Shamein Moyo while armed with a machete and slapped her twice on the cheek and demanded her Itel cellphone, which she surrendered, ”said Mr Moyo.

He told the court that using the same modus operandi, the accused robbed the other five complainants of their valuables such as cellphones and varying amounts of cash.

Mr Moyo told the court that on January 2 this year, one of the accused raped the complainant in an area between Pelandaba West and Pumula South suburbs.

On the same day, the two accused assaulted Mr Silent Dube with a sjambok for reasons not disclosed in court.
