Rape suspect gets bail

Regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire remanded Ishmael Mazanhi out of custody on US$50 bail on allegations of raping a mentally challenged woman.
It is the State’s case that on June 11, 2011 the complainant went to her sister’s house in Epworth to collect some clothes. She found the 19-year-old man in her sister’s room with a child. After the complainant entered the room, the man instructed the child to leave the room.
The man then locked the door from inside and ordered the complainant to lie down and raped her once before chasing her away.
On her way out, the complainant told her sister’s friends about the incident and the friends reported the matter to the woman’s sister and Mazanhi was arrested.
Mr Nemadire ordered Mazanhi to report to Epworth Police Station once every week and to refrain from interfering with state witnesses.
Mr Michael Reza appeared for the State.
