Government has established nearly 100 rapid response centres across the country for parents and guardians to report misconduct by school authorities.

These include arbitrarily increasing tuition fees, conducting unsanctioned extra lessons and denying admission to students who haven’t paid fees.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has dedicated more than 250 officials to address cases of misconduct, including corporal punishment and discriminatory enrolment.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro, advised parents, guardians, teachers and students to use the command centre focal points to report any misconduct that could damage the education sector’s reputation.

The Government has also threatened to publicly name and shame schools suspected of unilaterally adjusting tuition fees and levies without approval from the ministry.

It has also initiated an investigation into schools suspected of demanding payments in US dollars.
