A GOKWE woman got the shock of her life when she caught her brother red-handed raping his four-year-old daughter who was left in his custody while her mother attended a funeral in a neighbouring village. The man from a village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gokwe regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo facing a rape charge.

He was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to 20 years in jail.
The State’s case was that on 3 July this year, the man was left home with his four-year-old daughter while his wife attended a funeral in a nearby village.

It is the State’s case that while on her way to the funeral, the girl’s mother met her sister-in-law and she asked her to go home and help her brother look after the girl while she was away.

The woman went to her brother’s homestead in the same village and found him raping the minor. She informed other villagers who effected a citizen’s arrest on the girl’s father.
The villagers force-marched the man to the police station where the matter was reported.
