Rapist uncle jailed 12 years

girl with a packet of biscuits before raping her once.
Bindura regional magistrate Mrs Mavis Kudumba sentenced the 31-year-old rapist to 12 years in jail, but set-aside two years.
Prosecutor Mr Munyaradzi Mataranyika established that the man who was the guardian of the girl committed the offence between January and March 22 this year at a farm in Bindura.
On the date in question, the man unusually went to a local shop and bought a packet of biscuits for the girl.
The girl, who could not easily believe the favour, ate the biscuits and retired to bed at night.
The two used to sleep in the same hut.
During the night, the man sneaked into the girl’s blanket and forcibly became intimate with her.
A neighbour who discovered the abuse made a police report leading to the man’s arrest.
When the trial opened, the man pleaded not guilty, but he was convicted on overwhelming evidence after a full trial.
He denied ever committing the offence claiming he had been framed.
The girl lost her parents years before she began staying with her uncle at the farm.
