South African musician KO is optimistic that his tour of Zimbabwe, which will see him performing at Belgravia Sports Club on Saturday with Mafikizolo and local musicians, will open new avenues for him in the country.
The musician, whose real name is Ntokozo Mdluli, is enjoying success as a solo artiste but his rise to fame came with the group Teargas after they releases their critically acclaimed debut album “K’shubile K’bovu” in 2006.
Organisers of the Belgravia show said the musician was happy to sign a contract for a show in Zimbabwe since he has hopes of penetrating the regional market in a big way.
“The musician has been doing well in SA and he is happy to be coming to Zimbabwe. He has toured other countries in the region and he said Zimbabwe is one of his target markets and he hopes to establish a strong relationship with fans and musicians here,” said one of the organisers.
“He has been consistently in touch, inquiring about many things ahead of the tour because he wants to come prepared to make the contacts here. He also hopes to work with local musicians and he has been talking about Zimbabwean rappers. He is really excited about the tour as he takes it as one of his trips in the region to expand his reach.”
He said KO was happy to be joining Mafikizolo on the trip since the group has performed in Zimbabwe on several times and would assist him with tips on how to penetrate the local market further.
KO is singed by South African company Cashtime Life, which he co-founded. Since going solo, the rapper’s music career has been on a rapid rise.
His album, “Skhanda Republic”, won the Record of the Year, at the 21st South Africa Music Awards while his wildly successful single, “Caracara”, recently hit two million views on Youtube.
On Satruday, KO and Mafikizolo will share the stage with many local musicians that include Jah Prayzah and Winky D.
