MOROCCAN Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has ordered Jennifer Lopez’s raunchy performance at the Mawazine Festival, which was aired on national television, to be looked at by the country’s audiovisual committee.
He described the Booty hit-makers performance on May 29 as “serious delinquency’’, saying it contained “disgraceful scenes’’. The performance was full of raunchy dances, skimpy outfits and the camera personnel responsible for the footage mostly focused on the singer and dancer’s bootylicious behind, putting J Lo in all manners of trouble with Moroccan officials.
As a result, the Prime Minister labelled the pop singer’s on-stage antics as “sexually suggestive’’, insisting the broadcast violated the audiovisual laws of the country.
Authorities in Morocco also claimed that Lopez “disturbed public order and tarnished women’s honour and respect” with her sultry show.
In a letter to the president of Morocco’s High Authority of Audiovisual Communication, Benkirane said it was necessary to “take legal measures against those responsible’’ as the performance had “sexual overtones . . . which were indecent and provocative to the religious and moral values of Moroccan society’’.
TMZ reported that Lopez and the concert’s promoter had both been hit with legal action, and could face “1 month to 2 years in prison” in the “unlikely event” that they are prosecuted.
Critics are reported to have called for Morocco’s Minister of Communications, Mustapha Khalifi to resign for permitting the broadcast, according to BBC News. However, Khalifi tweeted that Lopez’s performance was “unacceptable and goes against broadcasting law”.
Meanwhile, the 45-year-old singer has previously admitted that she feels sexier now, more than ever and had no trouble stripping off for an intimate scene in one of her recent movies.
She said: “I think I always felt sexy. More so now. I feel more like myself and I just know myself better.
“Everybody is always nervous when you’ve a scene like that, but it was just about finding the line. I’ve done versions of that (scene” over the years many times. You do 30-something movies, you’ve a lot of love scenes.
“It’s our job to make everything look natural. Sex scenes are always uncomfortable.
“It’s a very vulnerable position to be in, I don’t think it’s something you ever get used to as an actress. But I prefer romantic comedies. They’re just fun. You’re just seeing how silly you can make things. I’m a hopeless romantic as well.’’ — Sowetan/NME/Showbiz Reporter.
