Government has extended a rebate on duty for fertiliser manufacturers on some raw materials needed.

The new regulations are effective from the beginning of the year and will benefit 13 companies.

The regulations are contained in Statutory Instrument 29 of 2021 and may be cited as the Customs and Excise (Fertiliser Manufacturers) (Rebate) Regulations 2021.

They were gazetted by Finance and Economic Development Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube in term of the Customs and Excise Act.

The raw materials that qualify for the rebate are copper ores and concentrates, phosphoric acids and polyphosphoric acids, anhydrous ammonia, double salts, mixtures of calcium nitrate and ammonium nitrate.

The approved manufacturers are ZFC, Windmill, FSG, Omnia, Grow Agriculture, Nufert, ETG/PHI Consortium, FertMap, Damara, Orgfert, Sable Chemical Industries, Zimphos, Dorowa Mineral.

The rebate facility is expected to boost local production of the commodity and cut the import bill.
