GANGSTER like that!
FC Platinum fans slashed tyres of match officials’ vehicles at Mandava Stadium on 15 September because they felt the game regulators were out to favour rivals Herentals FC.
That the recently crowned Premier Soccer League champions had actually beaten Herentals FC 2-0 was not enough to stop vandals from destroying the match officials’ property on that fateful day. Champions or not, the PSL disciplinary committee has come down heavily on FC Platinum for failing to protect match officials against acts, or attempted acts of violence or any form of abuse before, during or after a match.
It’s a chargeable offence under the PSL standing rules and regulations.
“The club was fined $1 500, of which $500 was suspended for the 2019 season on condition that the accused is not convicted of a similar offence. The fine of $1 000 together with the cost of the hearing shall be paid by 30 November 2018,” said the PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudazi Bare.
Meanwhile, Ngezi Platinum striker Liberty Chikoroma was found guilty of assaulting a match official after a Chibuku Super Cup first round match against Herentals FC at Baobab Stadium on 22 September. He violated PSL statutes which prohibits a player from assaulting, threatening, intimidating, coercing, misleading, interfering or insulting match officials before, during or after a match.
For being found on the wrong side of the law, Chikoroma was suspended for three matches.
But his sentence will be carried over to the 2019 season as this year’s campaign is already over.
“He has also been ordered to pay for the costs of the hearing,” said Bare.
