THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe says it is investigating cases involving traders who are rejecting $5 notes from the transacting public.
Such conduct is not only counterproductive but also criminal, said the Apex bank in a statement.
“The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is investigating cases involving traders who are rejecting $5 notes for payment for goods and services,” it said.
“Such conduct is not only counterproductive but also criminal.”
The bank said those affected or inconvenienced by the malpractice should report to RBZ, the FIU or the nearest police station.
The monetary authority urged all traders to conduct their operations within the confines of the law and respect consumers. It said all notes in circulation were still legal tender.
