The Government has called on real estate agents to embrace transparency and fairness in all their dealings, emphasising that every transaction facilitated by estate agents should reflect the nation’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of all citizens.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said this while officially opening the Estate Agents Council headquarters in Harare today.
He said real estate agents should align their activities with the principles of good governance and the rule of law.
“The Estate Agents Council has a significant responsibility not only to registered estate agents but, more importantly, to the public it serves,” he said.
“It is crucial for the Council to align its activities with the principles of good governance and the rule of law, which are the cornerstones of a just society.
“It is vital to diligently safeguard citizens from unfair property pricing and excessive commissions, which contradict the reforms aimed at facilitating business operations and improving the ease of doing business.”
This new headquarters, Minister Ziyambi said, will be the epicentre for all estate agency operations, encompassing registration and licensing to training, as well as dispute resolution and policy development amongst other functions.
The Estate Agents Council chairman Mr Nico Kuipa, said: “We are fostering it through continuous professional development programmes, which ensure that our registered agents remain at the forefront of industry standards and practices.”
