Real’s lead over holders Barcelona was reduced by two points on Sunday when they had to swallow an injury-time 1-1 home draw against defiant Malaga.
Santi Cazorla’s goal ended Real’s 11-match winning run and gave Barca hope of catching Real.
“We will have to win on Wednesday (tomorrow). We cannot afford to drop any more points, as we did today (Sunday),” said Real defender Marcelo.
Coach Jose Mourinho is hoping that winger Angel di Maria will be fit again after a lengthy layoff. Up front, he will have to choose again between Karim Benzema — who scored against Malaga — and Gonzalo Higuain to accompany Cristiano Ronaldo.
Villarreal, who are fourth from bottom, sacked coach Jose Molina after less than three months in the job on Sunday. By tomorrow their coach will probably be Miguel Angel Lotina, with whom the Yellows were negotiating with yesterday.
