Madrid are confident they will seal a deal at around £25m a season — meaning the Portuguese star will earn about £250 000 a week net as the new 50 percent Spanish tax rate kicks in.
Perez said: “I would bet Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid because it’s the natural thing.
“We will negotiate the new contract before the start of La Liga and I am convinced that everything will come out well.”
United were ready to offer Madrid £65m and Ronaldo £15m a year — hoping he would accept less money in order to seal a return to the club that made him famous.
But Perez told the Spanish newspaper Marca: “To renew Cristiano before the start of the season is my desire and my ambition.
“We all want that he retires at Real Madrid. We will do everything possible to make it happen.”
Ronaldo has been key to Madrid’s astronomical £450m-a-year turnover.
Losing the winger could prove disastrous for Real’s finances, which is why they will break the bank to keep hold of him.
Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski will more than double his money if he joins Manchester United.
The Polish striker earns £2m a year — almost £40 000 a week — at Borussia Dortmund.
But United would be prepared to pay him £90 000 a week — nearly £4,7m a year.
The player was expecting to follow his teammate Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich.
But Dortmund blocked that this week, saying they were adamant he would not go to their Bundesliga rivals and the team that beat them in the Champions League final. The player himself was stunned by that development but does not believe he will still be at Dortmund next season.
Lewandowski said: “I do not think that this is the final decision and I expect the situation to change.
“I am enjoying my holiday for now, but I hope things move forward pretty soon and the situation changes.
“I do not get upset about anything.”
United have now been told they can have the Polish striker if they offer £25,5m.
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that the deal to Munich will not go through because they simply had not bid.
Watzke said: “Robert will definitely not transfer to Bayern Munich in 2013.
“This is final. We have informed Robert and his advisers. The Bayern case is closed because there was no written offer.” — The Sun.
