Mbare magistrate Ms Rufaro Panavanhu yesterday denied bail to Tinashe Regice Ngandu who is facing charges of reckless driving, failure to stop after a serious accident and to report an accident within 24 hours.
Ngandu’s car hit another vehicle and injured the driver. He then sped off from the accident scene.

Thirty-one-year-old Ngandu, a Dzivarasekwa Extension resident, was remanded in custody to August 6 for possible trial commencement.

The complainant in this case is the State.

Prosecutor Mr Joe Chikoto said on June 23 at around midnight, Ngandu was driving a Honda Stream along High Glen Road due north, with one passenger on board.

Honest Garaiza (36) was driving a Mercedes Benz along the same road.

Upon reaching the intersection of High Glen Road and Kambuzuma Road, Garaiza’s car which was turning right was hit by Ngandu’s car on the rear right side.

Garaiza’s car sustained some scratches and no one was injured.

Both parties stopped and disembarked from their vehicles to discuss the way forward.

The discussion turned into a disagreement and Ngandu got into his vehicle and drove off. His car door was open and it hit Garaiza and knocked him down.

Ngandu’s vehicle ran over Garaiza and injured him. Garaiza was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment by well-wishers.

The matter was reported to the police and Ngandu’s vehicle was tracked through the Central Vehicle Registry.
