ZIMBABWE veteran Sean Williams is enjoying one of the greatest runs of form in ODI history as records have tumbled at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
Williams extended his stunning scoring streak to three centuries in five innings with 142 in the Super Six opener against Oman and has now amassed 532 runs at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.
With previous scores of 174, 102*, 91 and 23 at the tournament, Williams has compiled the third-most runs in five consecutive ODI innings and a total that only sits behind some of the biggest names in the game.
Virat Kohli holds the record with 596 ODI runs for India in a five-innings stretch, with Pakistan’s Babar Azam next best on 537.
Williams’ incredible form has helped propel the hosts to the brink of qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, but he has been just one of several standouts at the tournament in Zimbabwe.
Teammate Sikandar Raza, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, and Netherlands surprise-packet Logan van Beek have also broken or equalled benchmarks to put their teams in the frame for a spot at the showcase event later this year.
