parts of the country and support the needy. He also said the donation would help strengthen the ties between the two humanitarian organisations.
“This donation is going to change people’s lives. It is our heartfelt decision to give to the people of Zimbabwe through the ZRCS. Our relationship with ZRCS is that of a brother and sister. So we work hand in glove in providing immediate relief to people in disaster situations,” he said.
The visiting Iranian delegation signed a memorandum of understanding with the ZRCS that will see the two organisations working closely in a number of humanitarian relief programmes. Dr Abbasi pledged support the Red Cross in carrying out programmes that include water and sanitation, disaster response, first aid training and the building of a clinic in the Avenues area.
“The Red Crescent Society of Iran is going to erect a fully equipped clinic and the clinic is going to be one of the biggest in Zimbabwe,” Dr Abbasi said.
Red Cross secretary general Mr Maxwell Phiri hailed the Iranian delegation for their support.
