A TREE-planting initiative driven by the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) and Nyaradzo Holdings is yielding results in Mashonaland West.
A number of stakeholders have embraced the initiative launched at Chinhoyi High School on May 26.
The launch had the blessing of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, as the students are set to be involved in tree planting.
Evangelical Fellowship in Zimbabwe (EFZ), which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary in Chinhoyi, has also embraced the idea.
Bishop Never Muparutsa, the EFZ president, called for a change in mind-set among environmental conservations.
“As the church fraternity, we are humbled by the gesture from Nyaradzo Holdings.

“We were created to manage vegetation, but we have become predators as human beings and this has resulted in desertification, climate change and an increase in gas emissions.
“We need to think and act positively for the sustainability of our environment, so let’s go and preach the gospel of planting trees,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, ZRCS Mashonaland West Youth Officer, Michael Chimusoro, said their partnership, with Nyaradzo Group, was in line with the 2021-2025 strategic plan, which supports the International Federation of Red Cross’ target of planting 10 million trees in southern Africa.
“The initiative follows the #COP 26 commitments where IFRC Southern Africa pledged to plant 10 million trees around local schools, community centres and Red Cross centres by 2025,” said Chimusoro.
