Zimbabwe Red Cross Society which recently opened its doors to residents willing to get the Covid-19 jab is vaccinating an average of 200 people daily at their Harare clinic in the central business district (CBD).
In complementing Government’s efforts in fighting the spread of Covid-19 the clinic has been administering the Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines.
Addressing journalists yesterday, the clinic’s Practitioner in Charge, Dr Joe Tapi, said they were happy with the response as people were coming to receive their jabs at the clinic.
“We are witnessing a number of between 150 and 200 people who are coming to receive their jabs at the clinic on a daily basis,” he told journalists.
“This is really from the call that the Government is making to ensure that we all fight against this pandemic and ultimately reach herd immunity as a nation to ensure that Zimbabweans are protected so that we might return to our normal activities.”
“We play the humanitarian role in assisting the Government.
“In terms of our model as a clinic, we thrive to ensure that we are offering high quality medical care at a lower cost. We tend to bridge the gap between the private and the public sector. We are here to play our role in augmenting the efforts of the Government.”
Dr Tapi added that vaccination was for free just like what is being done at Government institutions.
He revealed that they do not charge administration fees.
“We are operating just like any other Government institution,” he said.
Red Cross humanitarian ambassador and popular Sungura music icon, Alick Macheso, also urged the public to embrace the vaccination drive to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
“We are encouraging members of the public to get vaccinated and fight the spread of Covid-19. People must also desist from listening to rumours and misconceptions of side effects as vaccination is meant protect them,” he said.
