Redcliff Town Council has budgeted $375 million for the construction of a water reticulation plant as part of the local authority’s plans to end perennial water problems.
Government recently approved Redcliff’s $1,6 billion for this year and the local authority intends to spend the bigger chunk of it towards water reticulation.
At the moment, Redcliff draws treated water from Kwekwe city, which is billed in bulk.
Acting Redcliff town clerk, Mr Nyararai Gomba, said they were prioritising the water treatment plant project with the new budget.
“Our budget was recently approved and we are targeting to construct a water treatment plant,” he said. “We have set aside $375 million for that project, as well as to rehabilitate the Rutendo sewer line.”
Among other major projects, Mr Gomba said the local authority sought to purchase equipment that includes a grader, refuse compactor and tipper truck and a budget of $4,297 million had been put aside.
“We will also be servicing Rutendo Extension, Grasslands and Englebrech suburbs,” said Mr Gomba. “We also want to resuscitate our own income generating projects like brick moulding and a textile project to raise funds.”
Redclifff has also set aside $77 million for road rehabilitation.
