Redcliff in $500k revamp exercise

REDCLIFF municipality has awarded a $500 000 tender for the rehabilitation of Zisco Road to improve service delivery in the satellite town. Town mayor Councillor Fred Kapuya said the road was important in that it linked the local authority to the Harare-Bulawayo Highway. He said Zisco Road was the busiest in his local authority, which starts from corner of Redcliff turn-off along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

“I am glad to note that we have awarded a $500 000 tender for the rehabilitation of Zisco Road, which starts from Redcliff turn-off, which is from Harare-Bulawayo Highway,” said Cllr Kapuya.

“The rehabilitation, which will see the resurfacing of the seven kilometre road, was necessitated by the need to spruce up our image and improve on service delivery as we anticipate the reopening of the former steel giant Ziscosteel under this new political dispensation.”

Cllr Kapuya said the tender would also result in the installation of about 50 solar powered street lights along Zisco Road and other roads in the local authority to protect motorists and pedestrians from muggings at night. He said scores of residents had been mugged at Redcliff turn-off and along other roads in the local authority, which did not have street lights.

“The Redcliff turn-off road at the moment is dull since there is no eye-catching signage and the road is now in a bad state. So, we hope the rehabilitation of the roads, street lighting and improved signage will benefit the local authority and investors as well,” said Cllr Kapuya. Cllr Kapuya said the contractor was moving in tomorrow and was expected to have completed the job within a month.
