NO, don’t give up. Instead reflect, reinvent yourself, and refocus attention to your goals then blast-off to the place of to your place of achievement and success.
So probably you have lost the note or paper where you wrote your customary New Year’s resolutions for 2013.
Perhaps the mental note you had made of your goals for the year is beginning to be erased by the frustration brought about by failure. It need not be like that.
Yes, this will sound like a cliché but the truth is that your goals can and should be realised.
What you failed to achieve in the first half of the year can be done in the latter half if you apply yourself and commit to the goals.
However if you continue with what you were doing you will probably get the same results you got in the first half, nothing.
So what do you need to do to ensure that this year becomes productive, and does not go down as one of your wasted years?
Reflect
It can never be stressed well enough that our decisions and actions affect the outcome and direction of our lives.
Therefore it is also clearly true that when one is not getting results or not getting the desired results, they need to change the way they make their decisions or their actions.
Reflection makes it possible for you to ascertain what to change and what not to change. Look back in retrospect on all the things you have been doing and how you were doing throughout the beginning of the year of even stretch back as far as your memory can recollect. You will realise a pattern on how your choices, thought patterns, behaviours and actions have impacted your life and the results you have been getting. Once you realise the pattern, identify the areas that need attention and begin to reflect on how to bring about the desired results.
Reinvent
Once you have realised the cause and effect pattern of your life you need to come up with a work plan that produces the desired results for you. That process of coming up with a work plan is the process of reinventing yourself. This process includes abandoning some habits, that off course produced unwanted results and adopting new habits that will work for you.
Reinventing might require learning new things and skills. It might mean changing your daily routines or even totally upsetting it. It might imply changing your associations and friends.
The important thing is that all the changes should all point towards bringing you to the place where you achieve your dreams and goals. If for example you realise that you spend most of time on social networks and it’s cutting your study time and your concentration levels, a determined student will decide to shelve their phones and internet enabled gadgets until they achieve their goal. As you will realise some of the decisions are tough calls, but they have to be made if your reinvention should result in success.
Refocus
The reason why most people achieve their goals is because they lack focus.
Once you have reflected and reinvented, you now need to refocus. Reinventing will show you that maybe you had misplaced your attention, passions and energy. As such it is necessary to realign all your actions to the goals at hand. There are many good things that can be done, but look into the few good actions, which when you take will result in most of your success.
This is simply using the Pareto 80-20 rule which states that eighty percent of your results are derived from twenty percent of your actions. Find those things that produce the bulk of your results and focus on them. Give them priority and ignore the rest. The more you focus on the things that bring the most results the quicker and better your results will come.
Blast-Off
On completion of the above three steps the most important thing which is probably what has been lacking all along is to blast-off. Success will not come to present itself to you on your couch. Go for your dreams, and do that in an aggressive and unapologetic manner.
If you have to do it, you probably have to do it big, if not then what’s the point. Do not try to be moderate or modest, just blast-off!
The remainder of the year is yours for the taking if you will just be bold and decisive enough to claim it.
Till next week guys, God bless you all.
