Refresher course for PSL coaches

The pre-season refresher course which will be running for a second year is set for Harare from 19-26 February.

Rutemoller is a former German men’s national team assistant coach and he is the chief instructor for the German Football Association.

He is also a Fifa instructor and former coach for top Bundesliga club Cologne FC.

In a telephone interview from Harare yesterday, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said Nyaradzo Funeral Holdings would sponsor the coaching clinic.

“We are grateful to Nyaradzo Funeral Holdings for this gesture that is meant to develop our league. The company will sponsor the refresher course for our Premiership coaches. The idea is to have such coaching courses before the start of every season.

“Unlike last year where each club brought in three coaches, this time around each club is expected to send their head coach and the assistant coach. Rutemoller of German will be the facilitator,” Ndebele said.

Last year Nyaradzo forked out $60 000.

Webster Chikengezha, the funeral services group general manager, said the clinic was one of a series of programmes they had lined up as a way of uplifting the standards of local football.

He said they were yet to meet the PSL to decide on their budget but it is highly likely that they will maintain last year’s budget.

His company last year provided 30 balls, 50 bibs, 30 cones and took care of the costs of bringing in Rutemoeller.

Nyaradzo also catered for all the travelling and accommodation costs for coaches coming from outside the capital.

In addition, each coach got three formal branded shirts, two golf T-shirts, a cap and five round-necked T-shirts for training.

Chikengezha said their wish was to see Zimbabwe qualify for major events like the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.

“As Nyaradzo Funeral Services, we believe that Zimbabwe should be playing at Afcon and the World Cup.

“However, we have noted that it is a process for the Warriors to go there and as such, if we have good players coming from the local clubs we are likely to get quality players for the national team.

“As a company we decided to invest in this refresher course so that people who spend time with the players, the coaches, are equipped with the necessary skills,” said Chikengezha.
