US-BASED ethnomusicology lecturer and reggae crooner, King Isaac, has saluted local producers and musicians.
Famed for his 2010 album, titled ‘Isaacs Meets Isaac,’ featuring the late Jamaican lovers rock crooner Gregory Isaacs, the music teacher said Zimbabwe was blessed with a number of talented artists.
“I miss working with my fellow (Zimbabwean) musicians and producers in the studio and on the stage. “I am at my happiest when I am making music. “Of course, I also miss my friends and relatives too, and the great food,” he said.
King Isaac, who has proved his versatility over the years, made this announcement ahead of the release of his new single titled ‘Rova Nguma.’
It will be released today and unveiled on all local radio stations. It’s a jiti song off his forth-coming album due for release early next year. Unpacking the new single, King Isaac said:
“The new single is in the genre of jiti, one of Zimbabwe’s greatest musical inventions.
“It is a fun song where a young man is being advised about how to get the attention of the woman he likes. “I recorded this song when I was in Zimbabwe in July.
“As you know, I’m also a reggae artist but when I come home I have the opportunity to record in our Zimbabwean music styles so it’s a lot of fun for me and I enjoy being able to compose and sing across genres,” he said.
The creative genius hailed local producer, Gibson Makumbe, for his creative edge.
“I worked with Gibson Makumbe Productions on this song.“This single will be our last release of the year.
“The year 2022 has been a year of the singles.
“In January, we released a song called ‘The Score’ that I recorded in Jamaica with Chaka Demus.
“The music was produced by Leroy Sibbles.
“On Valentine’s Day we released a reggae single ‘Uye Uye’ and followed it up with a video in August that we recorded during my visit to Zimbabwe in July.
“Now. we are rounding the year up with ‘Rova Ngoma.’
“We will be releasing a lot of great music in the New Year, including two albums, one of which is called, ‘Legends Of Reggae Present King Isaac.’
“This album will contain songs I did with reggae legends such as U Roy, Gregory Isaacs, Leroy Sibbles, Chaka Demus, Dean Fraser, and others.”
