BOXER Themba Nkomozabo scooped Gold for team Zimbabwe in the finals of AUSC Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games in the Flyweight Boxing Division finals today.
Nkomozabo beat Thomas Mahihanga of Namibia.
However it was not a good day in the ring for other three boxers – Herbert Marimbo Rumbidzai, Nelson Itai Mutswayiro and Ndaba Nhlanhla Kumbirai lost in their respective matches.
The delighted Nkomozabo thanked his coaches and hoped the medal is the start for better things to come.
“I’m very excited to have won Gold for my country, I thank all my coaches for this achievement and I hope this marks the beginning of greater things to come,” said Nkomozabo.
Herbert Marimbo Rumbidzai lost to Itingi Max of Namibia in the Light-Heavy Weight category while Nelson Itai Mutswayiro lost to Nthuko Ngamo of South Africa in the same category.
In the Heavy Weight category Ndaba Nhlanhla Kumbirai came unstuck against the tall and heavy hitter Leite Danilo Aegeb of Angola.
