Region to hold social responsibility indaba

The indaba’s main thrust is to try and address knowledge gaps that still exist regarding corporate social responsibility with a view to clear the air regarding its practice.

“The 2013 Southern Africa CSR indaba will seek to provide a platform to address the misconceptions on the motivations behind the practice of CSR by governments, individuals and corporate entities as well as to outline the intended impact and potential of CSR   initiatives towards contributing to the development of local communities,” the centre said in a statement.

This therefore entails that this indaba will provide an interactive platform between business leaders, Government and the general public on corporate social responsibility.

“The indaba will address Southern Africa’s CSR policy and legislative gaps, experiences and opportunities for creative, cutting edge initiatives to bring about maximum impact on communities.

“Its three main objectives will be to consider the progress of CSR in Southern Africa, to create and sustain smart partnerships locally and regionally  and to raise the profile of CSR as a vehicle for contributing to sustainable development,” added the statement.

On the first day of the indaba an awards dinner – the 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards – will be presented to recognise and honour the valuable work being done by both small and large organisations from different sectors in the country towards improving the socio-economic and environmental status of communities.

Awards will be given in more than 10 categories some of which include best CSR company, outstanding CSR reporter, outstanding local authority and outstanding  sustainability                                                                                                                         report.

Apart from the indaba providing a discussion platform for policymakers and different stakeholders, organisations will also get the opportunity to exhibit their products.
