The Lady Chevrons team set to face United States of America in an ODI series will be picked from the teams which are playing in the regional qualifiers.

Zimbabwe will host the USA in five ODI matches from October 14 to 28.

The ODI series is set to be the first series between the two sides.

As part of preparations, Zimbabwe Cricket has organised some regional games between the Northerns and Southerns.

The regional games will begin today at Old Hararians.

The matches are set for October 8, 10 and 12.

The games are set to be competitive as both sides boast of national team players within their ranks.

The Northerns have Ashley Ndiraya, Christabel Chatonzwa, Precious Marange, Nomvelo Sibanda, Sharner Mayers and Chiedza Dhururu among other Under-19 national team players.

The Southerns have Francisca Chipare, Josephine Nkomo, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Esther Mbofana, Nyasha Gwanzura, who are national team players.

It is from the regional qualifiers that the final squad to take on the United States tour will be picked.

The bilateral series will be the first for the United States on African soil.

It will only be a second visit to the continent following the premature ending, due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, at the 2021 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

United States coach Hilton Moreeng is optimistic the series will play a pivotal role in the white ball development for his team.

“We are looking forward to playing ODI cricket and challenge ourselves as a team to keep improving in this format. The longer format offers a different challenge for the team,” said Moreeng.
