This, Zimsec says, is a clear indication that people are gaining confidence with the local examination system.
Zimsec said 254 696 candidates had registered for O-Level examinations this year as compared to 201 000 last year.
The number of Grade Seven candidates rose from 305 000 to 307 887.
Zimsec public relations manager Mr Ezekiel Pasipamire said: “On A-Level a total of 29 000 pupils registered for November this year, up from 25 834.
“There is no doubt that the increases show that people are gaining confidence in us and we will try to improve,” said Mr Pamire.
The increase was despite the fact that Government had increased the registration fees for both O and A-Level candidates.
Grade Seven candidates do not pay for the public examinations.
The country’s registration levels had plummeted in the past years as hyperinflation pushed examination fees to astronomical levels.
