‘Rehabilitate inmates’

Herald Reporter
The Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services says churches should play a positive role in rehabilitating prisoners and assisting them materially as the institution has been affected by sanctions. ZPCS Mashonaland region chaplain, Superintendant Robson Madzivanyika, made the appeal at the zaoga Budiriro 5 district church on Sunday where goods worth thousands of dollars were donated to inmates across the country.

The goods included, cooking oil, sugar, washing and bathing soap, cloths, toothpaste and stationery among other things.
Supt Madzivanyika said what zaoga church was doing was noble as it was not only looking at the spiritual needs of the inmates but also assisted with food.

“The ZPCS is not for punishing offenders but we rehabilitate those who would have lost direction. What zaoga is doing helps in conscientising the society on its role in the rehabilitation of offenders.”
