Relatives of murdered Zimbabaweans urge SA police to get the criminals

Archiford Mushandi and his uncle Edward Soka were killed by unknown assailants who also got away with their vehicle, a red Citi Golf (registration number NKK 2637) on March 17 in Emakhabeleni area.

The vehicle belonged to Soka and he had recently bought it.

Family spokesperson Mr John Soka yesterday said they were still shocked by the incident.

“Everyone here is still in shock and confused,” he said. “We are still trying to ascertain what could have happened to my brother and nephew. The two died a very painful death and we are all hurt.”

Mr Soka said when he was informed about the death, he travelled to South Africa to collect the bodies where he got conflicting statements from various people about the incident.

He said it was his hope that the South Africa Police Services would get to the bottom of the matter and arrest the suspects.

“They were both staying in Greytown area at different houses,” said Mr Soka. “And a day before the incident, they were drinking beer at a nearby place called Ori’s Sports Restaurant with their vehicle parked outside.”

Mr Soka said on Sunday at around 2am, Mushandi is reported to have phoned his wife at home informing her that the car keys were missing.

“That was the last call he made to his wife who is pregnant and we don’t know what transpired from then except what was being reported by some newspapers in the area,” he said.

“We have lost two family men who were working hard for their families and they will be sadly missed. May their souls rest in peace.”

According to The Greytown Gazette, the two could have been hijacked before being grisly killed.

Police found the body of Mushandi on the ground approximately eight metres from the edge of a cliff and his legs were tied with a rope and he had a pair of shoe laces around his neck.

Soka’s body which had serious injuries was found nearby, according to the newspaper.

Police believe that early on Sunday the two victims might have been hi-jacked when driving a white Nissan 1400 bakkie in the Greytown area.

The suspects then allegedly tied up Mushandi and stabbed him several times, fatally wounding him.

It is believed that Soka was forced to drive the vehicle to the Emakhabeleni area and thereafter was also stabbed multiple times.

The suspects then threw both victims off the cliff and fled.

Ths South African police are still making appeals to anyone with information that might assist in carrying out investigations into the murder.

Mushandi and Soka’s bodies arrived in the country over the weekend before being buried in Mt Darwin and Murewa
