RELAX, IT SHALL BE WELL, BAMBO TELLS ZAIRE FANS

By Lloyd Mwale

MOSES Chunga has called for patience from Chegutu Pirates fans after Zaire secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Black Mambas at Pfupajena at the weekend.

An own goal by Mambas’ defender,Tapiwa Gunde, settled the contest and gave Bambo his first victory.

Chunga has assembled a young side and packed his team with new faces.

Only two players from the team which played in the domestic Premiership last year are still a part of the club roster.

“We did grind an important win, I’m happy now that the guys will know our culture of winning matches and my call is to our fans, they’ve to be patient as it is work in progress.

“We’ve been here for only ten weeks, so far so good but patience pays and everyone has to be patient.”

Bambo’s decision to trust his new young guns has not gone down well with some of Zaire’s die-hard fans. They were not happy that some of their idols like Simba “Madhinye” Domingo, Gift Mwinga, Tafadzwa “Stofinyo” Jika and defender Ruben Machaya were pushed out of the team.

Chunga has a history of investing his trust in young players. He used that formula at Dynamos when he created his famous Kidznet team which, if it had been kept together, would certainly have dominated domestic football in the first decade of the new millennium.

However, the fans and leaders at DeMbare did not share his vision and, like some of the Pirates fans, were desperate for immediate results. Chunga was forced out and the rest is history.
