Zimbabwe Music Awards organisers have extended the period for submission of entries for this year’s awards to next Wednesday after several artistes who had turned up failed to beat yesterday’s 5pm deadline.
ZIMA marketing and public relations executive Ms Farai Chapoterera said the extension was necessitated by the overwhelming response they got from the artistes who were unable to submit their works.
“We closed at 5pm, which was our deadline, and auditors were here to ensure we complied with the regulations,” said Ms Chapoterera.
“We found out that many artistes who had turned up were unable to register and submit their works by 5pm and we were unable to assist them.”
Ms Chapoterera said this was their first year back in business after a seven-year absence and most of the artistes were young and still trying to find their feet in the industry.
This, she said, necessitated a rethink to give the artistes a chance to participate in the event.
“So, a decision was made to extend our entries window to 12pm on Wednesday 13 August 2014,” he said. “We had an overwhelming response and we are delighted that the artistes are eager to take part in this event.”
Zima opened for entries on July 18 and artistes had been registering and submitting their works for consideration.
The organisers also received entries from Zimbabwean artistes in the Diaspora for the awards slated for Harare on October 7.
Zima honours outstanding musicians in different genres.
The awards were founded by Mr Joseph Nyadzayo, who also acts as the chairman.
The inaugural Zima awards were held in 2003 in Harare, with the aim of promotings local musicians in their pursuit of excellence.
