Relocated families happy

relocated with the farm turning into a modern settlement.

Anjin Investment, Mbada Diamonds, Marange Resources and Diamond Mining Corporation are constructing hundreds of modern houses for the families.
Anjin Investment, a joint venture between Government through the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation and the Chinese, has built the highest number of the houses followed by Mbada and Marange Resources.

DMC, the last to be granted a diamond mining licence at Chiadzwa, has also joined in building more homes for the families.
Anjin Investment, for example, has provided taped water for each of the households and has started tarring roads much to the delight of the families.
The company has also built secondary and primary schools at the farm.

“We never expected this. They provided us with taped water and now they have started tarring our roads and very soon transport problems will be a thing of the past. We do not even think of Chiadzwa.

“Chiadzwa now belongs to the past,” said Mrs Maria Shumba.
Mr Everson Dambi said he never anticipated that the farm would soon be transformed into a modern settlement within such a short period of time.
“Initially we thought the companies had just dumped us here but it is now clear to everyone that they have our interests at heart as well,” he said.

He, however, urged Government to ensure that the schools built by Anjin start enrolling pupils.
“The schools were constructed a longtime ago but are yet to be opened. We are being told they are waiting for the greenlight from Government.

“The only school at the farm is far away and we plead with Government to officially open the schools for the benefit of our children,” he said.
The other companies drilled boreholes while Anjin funded plumbing to ensure the houses had tap water.

The families also have uninterrupted power after the companies installed solar panels at each and every homestead. The families are, however, unhappy that Government is yet to allocate them land for farming.
“In the meantime, we were told to grow crops on our residential yards, which are very small,” one resident said.

There are plans by Government to provide the families with irrigated pieces of land.
Several Government officials have visited the area, among them the Governor and Resident Minister of Manicaland Province Chris Mushowe and have commended the work done by the diamond mining companies.
