Addressing 5 Brigade troops while handing over command in Kwekwe last Thursday, Brigadier General Inspectorate at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Kasirai Tazira accused politicians of working with detractors to silence the army for purposes of regime change.
“You should remain resolute and not be intimidated into silence by merchants of regime change who are disguised as politicians.
“Let us remain defiant of any machinations to strip us of our capabilities disguised as security sector reforms.
“Continue to sharpen your skills and be ready to defend our nation that has for the past twelve years observed western vultures continuously hovering above us ready to steal our resources,” he said.
Brig Gen Tazira said the brigade had a wealth of military experience gained from United Nations peace-keeping missions and the Democratic Republic of Congo war which was meant to preserve African dignity.
In his acceptance speech Brigadier General Justin Mujaji said ZNA personnel shall always be prepared to sacrifice their lives for the continuous existence of its sovereignty and its resources.
“We are a revolutionary army who shall forever be prepared to defend the resources of this great nation for the benefit of our citizens and not for the benefit of the imperialists.
“ZNA will stand steadfast despite the illegal sanctions being imposed on us by our enemies.
“Zimbabwe and her people should always stand united against these imperialists and their backers who are in our midst, our President and Commander-in-Chief Comrade Robert Mugabe always says Zimbabwe will never be a colony again,” he said.
Brig Gen Mujaji urged the troops to be resolute, professional, dedicated and fearless in the face of adversities currently bedeviling the army and the nation at large.
ZNA Commander Lieutenant General Phillip Valerio Sibanda supervised the handover and take over ceremony.
Midlands Provincial Governor Cde Jason Machaya also attended the ceremony.
