Nqobile Bhebhe in Jambezi
Zanu-PF National Secretary for Administration, Cde Obert Mpofu yesterday urged Hwange constituency party members to remain united and rally behind President Mnangagwa’s exemplary nationalist principles.
Cde Mpofu said unity and peace were the key cornerstones for development in the constituency and the entire country. Added to that, he said a united front was also critical in winning elections.
Addressing party members in Jambezi, Hwange East at a “Thank You” rally, Cde Mpofu said although Zanu-PF lost all three Hwange House of Assembly seats, the figures garnered were impressive.
“When we were campaigning for the elections, I promised that whatever the outcome, we will return here and thank you for voting for Zanu-PF. Although we lost the seats, the number of votes we got in all constituencies was very impressive. That was achieved through unity within the party. Those who did not vote for us are now regretting their choice,” he said.
In Hwange East, Zanu-PF’s Cde Alois Sikuka polled 8 485 votes against Joseph Bonda of CCC who polled 8 931 while in Hwange West Vusumuzi Moyo of CCC polled 7 954 to beat Cde Philani Moyo of Zanu-PF who got 7 504.
In Hwange Central Zanu-PF’s Cde Reeds Dube got 5 157 votes, losing to CCC’s Daniel Molokele who got 9 167 votes.
President Mnangagwa, who was Zanu-PF candidate, retained the presidency after he garnered 2 350 111 votes which constituted 52,6 percent against CCC leader, Mr Nelson Chamisa who got 1 967 343 votes, representing 44 percent of total votes cast.
However, some Western countries produced adverse post-election reports as the results did not go in favour of their preferred candidate.
Cde Mpofu added that party members should not look down upon the district as it contributed immensely in the liberation struggle.
To that end, Cde Mpofu impressed upon Zanu-PF members that for the district to achieve rapid development, members should always be truthful to each, shun gossip and discrimination.
“To be successful, let there be unity and let us tell each other the truth. Let’s be united.
“The way to development is the Mnangagwa way. We appreciate this district. We should not discriminate each other. We are one as Zimbabweans. President Mnangagwa is true nationalist, therefore let us follow his exemplary path.”
He said party members should not fight for posts as that was retrogressive.
The rally was attended by Central Committee members, losing candidates and scores of provincial and district members.
