RENOVATIONS at Queens Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club have gathered pace ahead of next month’s 2022 International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B to be hosted by the two venues.

When a news crew from this publication visited the two facilities last Thursday, the wooden poles that were supporting the nets had been pulled down and were being replaced by steel ones at BAC. Changing rooms at BAC were also having their floors painted.

At Queens, the nets had also been removed for painting.  Nicholas Singo, the Tuskers general manager said the work going on is to ensure that come the qualifiers, all is in place, with the renovations expected to be complete this week. “We’ve got our grounds men who are busy removing old pipes which were being used as our nets.

This will be a training centre for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers so we are making sure that the centre is ready for the qualifiers which will be held in three weeks’ time. We expect to complete these renovations by next week. The other thing we are doing is painting the changing rooms,’’ said Singo.

According to Singo, the bulk of the work has been done at Queens. “At Queens, we are painting the nets, we are also doing the renovations in the media centre, so there is not much work left, we have done 90 percent of the work there.”  Zimbabwe is one of the countries taking part in the qualifier scheduled for 11-17 July.

Nations making their way to the Southern African country are Jersey, Singapore, United States of America, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.

Jersey, Singapore and USA are Zimbabwe’s opponents in the group stage of the tournament.
