RENOVATION works have begun at the Essex Building in the city centre in Bulawayo just a week after fire gutted parts of the historic property along Leopold Takawira Avenue.
The building has been cordoned off to warn passersby of the construction taking place.
The top floor, which suffered extensive damage in the blaze, has been covered with roofing sheets.
The news crew observed workers on site attending to repairs as reconstruction gets underway.
The fire last week destroyed offices and property, leaving tenants displaced and raising concern among city residents over the state of the building.
The start of renovations has been welcomed as a step towards restoring business activity in the building and improving the appearance of that section of the CBD.
