BULAWAYO will today and tomorrow host a national summit of about 30 residents associations to discuss issues of service delivery and the role of residents in enhancing quality service. Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) is coordinating the event, which will be held at Montgomery Gardens in Richmond suburb.
BPRA advocacy and programmes manager, Emmanuel Ndlovu, said:
“The summit will provide a platform for the establishment of collaboration and solidarity among residents associations to ensure a more powerful voice in advocacy on socio-economic issues affecting the lives of residents,” said Ndlovu.
“The summit follows recognition by residents associations of their important role and mandate in socio-economic development in the country.”
Ndlovu said the summit will also allow residents associations to share knowledge on how to deal with existing problems on service delivery.
“The summit will facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices, enabling residents associations countrywide to maximise on their strengths and opportunities, and find means to address their weaknesses and challenges,” he said.
The meeting would facilitate advocacy on a national scale for the purposes of improving service delivery in local authorities, Ndlovu said.
Representatives from different local authorities, government and parliamentarians, are expected to attend the meeting.
