RESIDENTS of Area D in Westgate are calling for police patrols following a spate of thefts targeting water infrastructure, including taps, copper pipes and brass water meters.

One resident said thieves recently targeted her property, stealing two outdoor taps and a copper pipe.

“One tap was removed from the water meter while the other was stolen from the outside sink,” she said.

She added that a copper pipe connected to a cottage on the property was also stolen.

The resident said the thefts were becoming increasingly common in the neighbourhood, leaving some households without water infrastructure and causing significant water losses.

“At another house, water has been gushing onto the road after thieves stole fittings. It appears the owners cannot afford to repair the damage, so the water has been flowing continuously,” she said.

Residents are now appealing to the police to increase patrols in the area to curb the thefts and protect property.
