Marondera residents have expressed concern over poor service delivery by their council, which has seen some suburbs going for years without running water and unrepaired sewer pipes.

Some of the affected suburbs are Nyameni along Svosve Street where burst sewer pipes have remained unrepaired for more than a decade, while residents in Rusike phase 1 have gone for almost two years with no running water.

The same goes for those in Paradise area along First Street. In separate interviews with The Herald, a resident from Rusike who requested anonymity said the council’s failure to supply water was evidence of its incompetence. Marondera Residents Association chairperson Mr Upenyu Muteyo said it was important that local authorities consider  people’s lives.

He said they had handed over a list of concerns to the local authority, but no response had been forthcoming.

“We are worried about poor service delivery in Marondera,” said Mr Muteyo. “It is true that suburbs like Rusike have no running water since March last year and there are burst sewer pipes in most suburbs.
