Residents, council up in arms

Kadoma residents are up in arms with the municipality over its plans to close Rimuka Bus Terminus to force bus operators to use Waverly bus rank, which has not yet been upgraded. Kadoma Municipality recently said it had set aside $150 000 to upgrade Waverly Bus Stop, which is along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

In an interview last week, Kadoma Residents’ Association chairperson Mr Wikirosi Mutizire said residents were not amused by council’s move.

“The residents are against the idea of dumping Rimuka (Bus) Terminus as this would affect their businesses,” he said.
“The residents are also worried that Waverly Bus Stop has little capacity to serve all the buses.”

Mr Mutizire said residents were happy that the municipality planned to upgrade Waverly Bus Stop.
“It will also work well as part of sprucing up the city’s image,” he said.
Residents recently raised concern over the chaos at the Waverley Bus Stop, which has seen a surge in human and vehicular population in recent years.

Kadoma Central legislator Cde Fani Phiri had also written to Government over the developments at the terminus.
Bus operators continue to shun Rimuka Bus Terminus since it was reopened by the local authority.
