Residents of New Canaan risk flooding by building on drainage systems

The City of Harare visited New Canaan in Highfield on Wednesday, where it was established that residents are encroaching upon and building on the drainage system.

It was found that the drains were blocked when residents erected perimeter walls around government houses.

One resident stated that rain floods their yards. Demolitions are expected to take place if it is determined that they have encroached upon council land, in accordance with the plans for that area.

Ward 25 Highfield Councillor Jane Bhingari mentioned that there is a need for donor funding for the reconstruction of some houses that require special foundations.
