PLUMTREE residents who are accusing Plumtree council of corruption, have petitioned the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Saviour Kasukuwere to suspend the councillors and the entire management.
The residents said there was rampant abuse of public funds by council officials with the blessing of councillors.
They said Cde Kasukuwere should deploy government auditors to carry out a consolidated forensic audit in all council departments.
They said a senior council official collected payments for stands and issued buyers with fake receipts and this happened between February and November last year.
Residents resorted to petitioning the Ministry after getting no joy from council when they reported the official’s fraudulent activities.
Contacted for comment, the council chairperson, Clr Paulos Vini Hobane, said council was already investigating the official who was allegedly issuing fake receipts.
“There is a case of theft against the official. He is facing charges of selling stands to residents and issuing fake receipts. One of the affected residents approached the council complaining that debt collectors were demanding payment for her stand yet she fully paid for the stand,” he said.
