KAROI Town Council has been accused of prioritising the opening of its cocktail bar at the expense of service delivery.
Residents, who spoke to H-Metro, vented their anger at the local authority for not collecting garbage in the past two weeks, citing the shortage of fuel.
A resident, who chose not to be named, said:
“Council should focus on service delivery, how much have they poured into that project, wasn’t it enough to deposit for a refuse truck?
“Three weeks, no refuse collection, because the compactors are down.
“It’s only poor management. Council must e run like any other company and have best the managers and targets in every department.”
Another resident said:
“Inonzi service delivery ndeipi kutakura marara or kuvhura bhawa? Priorities anodiwa zvimota zvemabin zvachembera izvo, we need a new fleet kwete bhawa.
“All the money spent renovating the cocktail bar should have been chanelled to other important service delivery activities,”
Karoi Town Council Public Relations Officer, Precious Nharara, said:
“On the issue of refuse collection, there are two things, we are in the agricultural season when farmers sell their products and the generation of waste increases naturally.
“I think there has been an exaggeration but we have our two refuse compactors.
“What some residents failed to appreciate is that our cocktail bar has not been functional for some time and we decided to revive it.
“So, for the past few weeks, renovations were being done.”
