MR BRIAN MCKENZE of the Crime Liaison Committee has urged residents of Ward 16 to get involved in their neighborhood watch committees.
Speaking at a Ward 16 meeting to deal with robbery cases on Monday, Mr McKenzie urged residents to know what is happening.
“If everyone plays their part, if we get everyone involved and if everyone pays, you can increase the number of guards that help with patrols in your area,” he said.
“We take your guards, you can call me and I will assist you. We will get your guards vetted, give them some training and experience, we work with the police to help them get up to speed then we release them, show them strategies of how to fight crime effectively.”
Mr McKenzie also urged residents to have whistles.

“Let’s have a culture of responding to our neighbours. If someone cries out for help, let’s not close our doors and run away,” he said.
“Find out what is happening. Make calls and be active, there must be people around you who are working in the security sector, get hold of them and say can you help us. There are things we can do as a society.”
