Retailers have called on the Government to address pressing economic issues impacting the retail and wholesale sectors in the country.
Representatives of the sectors told Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu during a meeting yesterday that there is need to look at the exchange rate volatility, rising operational costs, and the growing disparity between the formal and informal sectors.

In response, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to creating a stable business environment and addressing key concerns raised by the industry.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) expressed satisfaction with the constructive dialogue and emphasised the importance of finding mutually beneficial solutions.

CZR president Dr Denford Mutashu said the meeting was a crucial step towards stabilising the economy and restoring confidence in the retail and wholesale sector.

Dr Mutashu highlighted his organisation’s dedication to supporting local suppliers, manufacturers, and the Government’s local content policy.

“These efforts will help boost local production capacity, reduce reliance on imports, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the country’s economy,” he said.

Dr Mutashu said CZR remains committed to representing the interests of retailers and wholesalers and working with the Government to ensure a balanced and supportive business environment.
