RETIRED Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) senior officers have been assured that they remain valued members of the organisation and have not been forgotten following their departure from active service.

The assurance was made by ZPCS Commissioner General Dr Moses Cyril Chihobvu during a rare engagement with retired senior officers at the ZPCS headquarters on Thursday.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening ties between the Service and its former members while reaffirming the important role retirees continue to play in the growth and development of the organisation.

Addressing the retirees, Comm-Gen Chihobvu paid tribute to their dedication, leadership and sacrifices, which he said had helped shape the institution into what it is today.

He said retirement does not diminish an officer’s place within the ZPCS family, describing retired members as a valuable source of institutional memory, experience and wisdom.

“Retirement may signify the conclusion of active service, but it does not diminish one’s place within the ZPCS family. The values, experiences and relationships cultivated over many years of service continue to bind us together, and we remain proud of the legacy you helped build,” he said.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu emphasised the need for continued engagement between the Service and retired officers through welfare liaison mechanisms, mentorship programmes and consultative platforms.

He encouraged retirees to remain connected with the organisation and continue contributing to the development of younger officers through mentorship, advisory roles, training support and the sharing of professional experiences.

He said the wealth of knowledge held by retired officers remained critical in nurturing future generations of correctional officers and preserving the values and professional standards of the Service.

The ZPCS Commissioner General also urged retired officers to prioritise their health and well-being, maintain participation in medical aid schemes and continue supporting initiatives such as the Staff Benefit Fund, which has assisted officers in accessing residential stands and housing development opportunities.

The retired senior officers commended the ZPCS leadership for fostering inclusivity and maintaining communication through various information platforms that keep them informed about developments within the organisation.

They expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with leadership and welcomed the direction being taken by the Service.
