A POLYGAMOUS retrenched Mutare man was dragged to court by his second wife who was accusing him of assaulting and insulting her. Takarindwa Makotamo was brought to court by his second wife, Maria Mukombwa who was also demanding $200 maintenance for the upkeep of their four children. Mrs Yeukai Chigodora heard the matter. She told the court that Makotamo assaulted her several times before chasing her from their matrimonial home on January 27.

“Ever since I left his place, he has never taken care of his children. He has been labeling me a witch. I am struggling. I need money for the children’s upkeep,” said Mukombwa.

Asked why he chased his wife away, Makotamo accused Mukombwa of having an affair with his young brother.

“She was having an affair with my own brother and he is the one who is influencing her to approach the courts to fix me. I did not chase her away from my place. Instead I told her to return to her parents’ home for a moment after she fought with my first wife who was accusing her of witchcraft. The reason why I told her to go was to convince her parents to agree on consulting the chief and traditional healers to resolve the witchcraft matter,” said Mukombwa.

“Her house is there and I am about to visit her parents to take my wife back home,” he added.

Makotamo also told the courts that he was now jobless following the closure of Jinan Diamond Mining Company on February 22.

“I am now surviving on piece jobs,” he said.

He offered to pay $10 per child as maintenance.

In her ruling, Mrs Chigodora ordered Makotamo to pay the $10 with effect from April 30 as well as providing for the children’s school fees.
